Five wickets for Richard Logan helped Cheshire bowl Berkshire out for 254 as they chased 341 to win at Finchampstead CC

Cheshire got their Minor Counties Championship challenge back on the track with a brilliant win over Berkshire.

They triumphed by 76 runs at Finchampstead CC, bowling the hosts out for 254 in pursuit of 341 for victory.

Cheshire, 176 for two overnight in their second innings, powered to 366 for five declared on the back of fine centuries from Ben Spendlove and Jonny Kettle, who made 136 and 129 not out respectively - they shared a second-wicket stand of 209 - and Dan Berry’s unbeaten 63 off 51 balls.

Richard Logan undermined Berkshire’s pursuit with 5-85, while fellow seamer James Hawley and left-arm spinner Jonny Fawcett claimed two wickets apiece. Carl Crowe top-scored with 55.

“That's a great win for us,” said Cheshire captain Andy Hall, whose side took 22 points from the match to Berkshire’s six.

“We've always tried to win this game and, fair play to Berkshire, they went for the runs because they want to win this division as well.

“But we bowled really well to bowl them out, especially on a really flat pitch. Both sides didn’t get bowled out in their first innings, and then us in the second innings, so it just showed how well we bowled.

“There are two games left now, so we're really back in the hunt. Losing to Dorset was pretty hard to swallow, but if we can win our last two games then we'll stand a really good chance of defending there title.”
