Cornwall are in a commanding position in their Minor Counties Championship game with Herefordshire after an impressive bowling performance on day two at Brockhampton.
Responding to Cornwall’s 384 all out on day one, Herefordshire resumed on 56 without loss, but they were soon up against it thanks some accurate bowling by Tom Sharp and Gloucestershire leg-spinner Michael Munday and they slipped to 180 for five at lunch, despite a belligerant 76 from Harshad Patel.
Wickets fell quickly after lunch but sterling 98 not out from David Exall shephered the tail through to 299 for eight in Herefordshire’s alloted 90 overs.
Skipper Sharp (3-95) and Munday (4-95) were the pick of Cornwall’s bowlers giving their side a first-innings lead of 85.
Cornwall made a fine start in their second innings cruising to 143 for one with Matt Robins making 69 and Dan Davis 63, before a disastrous last hour for the visitors saw them lose six wickets for just 39 runs, ending the day on 182 for seven, an overall lead of 267 going into the final day.
