Herefordshire make it two from two
Herefordshire continued their good start to the season with a nail-biting 10-run MCCA Trophy win against Oxfordshire at Colwall - to complete back-to-back victories for the first time since 2005.
Former Gloucestershire wicketkeeper Steve Adshead, whose century underpinned a four-wicket win over Hertfordshire last Sunday, made 79 to set up a total of 256 for seven in 50 overs.
Oxfordshire opener Nathan Hawkes replied with 82 from 69 deliveries but the visitors were dismissed with 22 balls unused.
Having been put into bat, Herefordshire were in early trouble at 22 for three but a partnership of 94 between Adshead and Dave Exall steadied the ship.
Following Adshead and Exall's departures - the latter for 38 - Ed Bayliss took the hosts to a challenging total with 48 not out from 42 balls.
Hawkes and Craig Haupt responded to the early loss of Shahbaz Ali with a blistering 105-run alliance in 14 overs. That looked to be taking the game away from Herefordshire before a mix-up saw Hawkes run out.
Herefordshire kept their nerve and picked up wickets at regular intervals, leaving Oxfordshire on 187 for six with the dismissal of Haupt for 52.
The visitors again rallied but lost three wickets with 27 required for victory, effectively ending their chances.
Herefordshire, who sit top of Group Three, face Dorset at Weymouth next Sunday.
