Wiltshire book quarter-final spot

Minor Counties MCCA promo

Wiltshire secured their place in the Minor Counties Knockout Trophy quarter-finals after a mammoth first-wicket partnership of 225 saw them past Lincolnshire.

Chasing a target of 281, Wiltshire openers Edward Kilbee and Jayden Levitt tore into the attack.

Levitt was eventually dismissed for 132 but the damage had been done and Kilbee’s unbeaten 109 helped them to an eight-wicket triumph.

They will be joined in the last eight by Cornwall who qualify as winners of Group Three after narrowly defeating Hertfordshire by three wickets.

Hertfordshire posted 243 but rapid half-centuries from Matthew Robins, David Roberts and Tom Sharp ensured the group leaders took the two points with one ball to spare.

Suffolk also progressed to the quarter-finals after they surpassed Shropshire’s 219 with the last ball of their innings.

Bilal Shafayat, who made 93 for Hampshire last Wednesday, was bowled for a golden duck in Shropshire’s innings.

Khalid Sawas followed last weekend’s unbeaten 199 with another half-century as Cheshire demolished Cambridgeshire by 116 runs.

Scott Kirwin and Jonathan Fawcett took seven wickets between them as Cambridgeshire fell way short of Cheshire’s 262.

Charlie Walker’s 105 not out ensured Herefordshire eclipsed Northumberland’s 239 with three balls remaining.

Oxfordshire kept alive their hopes of making the final eight with a 102-run victory over Bedfordshire, which in turn ended their quarter-final aspirations.

Greg Willott took 4-27 to help Staffordshire move to the summit of Group Four after they beat Wales Minor Counties with six wickets to spare.

Dorset sit directly below Staffordshire going into the final round of fixtures after a solid bowling display earned them a 53-run victory over Berkshire.
