Norfolk romp to Trophy triumph
Norfolk lifted the 2009 MCCA Trophy thanks to a comfortable 104-run victory against Staffordshire that ran well into the reserve day at the Riverside.
Man-of-the-match Michael Eccles claimed 5-34 from 10 overs to restrict Staffs to 153 all out in 40.3 overs, falling well short of Norfolk's 257 for six from 50 the day before.
Rain delayed the start on Wednesday until 2.45pm but Norfolk openers Carl Rogers (91) and Ben Patston (65) added 109 after their captain Stephen Gray had won the toss. Number six Jonathan Spelman made an unbeaten on 43 to ensure a competitive total.
Staffs lost early wickets before bad light curtailed their innings until yesterday morning. They resumed 9.3 overs in, but never fully recovered as Richard Harvey top-scored with 36.
