Qureshi comes to Wiltshire's rescue
Wiltshire had teenager Uzi Qureshi and the weather to thank for staving off defeat in their Minor Counties Championship clash with Wales Minor Counties at Trowbridge.
Charged with batting out the majority of the final day after turning down the opportunity to chase 326 for victory in a minimum of 76 overs, Wiltshire laboured to 199 for eight before bad light ended play early.
Seventeen-year-old debutant Qureshi also played a significant role, hitting a mature 78 off 145 balls to help earn Wiltshire 11 points, a tally matched by Wales.
Wales dominated the match thanks to a first-innings total of 376 for nine declared, which featured sizeable contributions from Aneurien Norman (71), Rhodri Evans (65) and Sam Davies (58).
Mitchell Stokes returned admirable figures of 6-135 before hitting 41 in Wiltshire’s 298 for seven, of which Jayden Levitt made 112, his maiden century for the county.
Stokes starred again with the ball by claiming 4-72 in Wales’ second-innings 247 for nine - he bowled 67 overs in the match - but Evans’ 83 left Wiltshire an improbable chase.
It was undermined by Mike Reed’s haul of 4-32, but Qureshi enhanced his burgeoning reputation with a fine innings before bad light forced the players off eight overs early.
