Rain keeps Staffs at bay
Rain denied Staffordshire the chance to press for victory in their Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division clash with Cumberland.
A final-day washout ruled out the prospect of a positive result at Knypersley, where Cumberland were 41 for one in the second innings, trailing by 54.
They were bowled out for just 141 on the opening day, which was also affected by rain, thanks to Dave Edwards’ haul of 4-56 and three wickets apiece for Alex Stead and Greg Willott.
Staffs’ reply of 236 for nine was built around Jimmy Dawson’s 44, and 34 and 30 respectively from Dan Hancock and Paul Goodwin.
Although Johnathan McCredie claimed his first wicket for Staffs early in Cumberland’s second innings on the second evening, the weather had the final say the following day.
