Major rain scuppers minor counties
The wet weather that prevented play in the LV= County Championship meant only one of the eight Minor Counties Knockout Trophy games yesterday went ahead, and that was abandoned after one innings.
Conditions at Penrith unsurprisingly favoured the bowlers and Cumberland limited Northumberland, who nevertheless chose to bat first, to 142 all out in 47.1 overs.
James Beaumont and Toby Bulcock’s 10 overs each cost a mere 17 runs and the latter took four wickets. Number nine Stuart Graham top-scored with 30 not out.
A point for Cumberland, who beat Herefordshire the previous Sunday, moved them clear at the top of Group Three.
