Washout dashes Staffordshire hopes
Staffordshire's outside hopes of reaching MCCA Trophy quarter-finals came to an end at Penrith when their scheduled fixture against Cumberland was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.
Already without the unavailable Gareth Morris and Alex Stead, Staffs were forced to make further changes to their scheduled line-up with the late withdrawals through injury of Dave Wheeldon and Ben McGuire.
New signing Nav Poonia and Walsall left-arm spinner Paul Byrne were the replacements for the unavailable duo while Stone left-handed batsman Jimmy Dawson and Wolverhampton's Aaron Jeavons received late calls to make the trip.
There was also a long and fruitless journey for Peter Wilshaw, who travelled from London after appearing for Stoke Rugby Club at Twickenham on the Saturday afternoon in their successful cup final appearance.
Staffs wrap up their group matches with a home game against Northumberland at Leek on Sunday June 5.
