Cheshire see off Wiltshire
Chris Tipper and James Duffy guided Cheshire to a thrilling five-wicket victory over Wiltshire in their Minor Counties Championship match at Trowbridge.
Chasing 144 to win in just 18 overs, Tipper struck an unbeaten 42 and Duffy made 37 not out as Cheshire countered the loss of five early wickets to reach their target with only 11 balls remaining.
Wiltshire, who won the toss and elected to bat, slipped to 81 for two but Jayden Levitt struck 102 and put on 85 for the third-wicket with Chris Benham, who made 30, before a collapse saw them bowled out for 206.
Richard Logan claimed 4-68, while Adam Syddall and Danny Woods took three wickets apiece for Cheshire.
In reply, Lee Dixon made 109 and Jonny Kettle and Dan Berry struck half-centuries as Cheshire declared on 381 for eight.
Steve Warner and Tahir Afridi took three wickets each for Wiltshire.
Starting their second innings 175 behind, Wiltshire slumped to 91 for seven before Paul Robbins, playing only his second championship game, struck 101 and added 214 with Ashur Morrison, a Wiltshire record for the eighth wicket.
Wiltshire were finally bowled out for 318 with Morrison stranded on 121 not out after Richard Logan took 4-107 and Adam Syddall returned 3-86.
In their quest for victory, Cheshire were stopped in their tracks by Tahir, who finished with 2-65, before Tipper and Duffy saw them home.
