Ockbrook and Borrowash have the spectre of 2009 to overcome in the Beechwood SAAB Derbyshire Premier League after their win over Dunstall was matched by Sandiacre's win over Alvaston & Boulton to signal the outbreak of hostilities between last season's great rivals.

Ockbrook’s Trevor Smith played a sensational innings reaching an unbeaten 107 which helped the 2009 champions to a 27 point win. Ockbrook made 267 for six with Ian Darlington also contributing 69. Craig Jennings finished with figures of 4-49 for Dunstall who gained just three points from the tie.

The visitors were 124 all out in 48.2 overs with Jamie Benstead hitting 33 and Craig Jennings making 37. Ockbrook’s bowlers sealed the win as Kevin Dean took 4-34 and Jake Needham finished on 3-23 to start off their 2010 campaign with a 27 point win for Ockbrook.

Alvaston & Boulton thought they had their first win done and dusted when they set Sandiacre a target of 330 having lost just five wickets in building such an imposing total. Steve Stubbings had an incredible innings of 187 to put his side in a strong position with Chris McIlroy assisting on 59.

But in response, Sandiacre managed to knock off the total in the penultimate over reaching 332, losing only six wickets, thanks to a whole team effort from James Chapman with 42, D Jordison 74, L Hobson 94 not out and J Jordison 53 not out. These princely contributions gave Sandiacre a well fought 22 point win against A and B.

Despite Chesterfield’s opener Alex Hibbert contributing an unbeaten 87, Chesterfield came away with just six points from their match with Ilkeston. The hosts made 267 for five in their 50 overs with two other solid innings coming from Ross Whitely on 70 and Ed Jones with 45.

However, in response, Ilkeston reached 268 in 48.4 overs for the loss of just three wickets. Man of the match, Chesney Hughes, made the top score of the game with 91, and was assisted by Lindell Richardson not out 81. Nick Dawson also contributed with 30 to help Ilkeston start off the 2010 Premier League campaign with a 22 point victory.

Alfreton’s John Aspinall helped give his side an away victory at Elvaston this weekend. Man of the match Aspinall took 3-44 as the hosts were bowled out for 132, giving them just two points.

The 36.2 overs it took Alfreton to take the ten wickets gave Charlie Ault the chance to hit 37. Alfreton reached their target in 22.1 overs losing only two wickets and leaving Matt Linekar (52*) and John Aspinall (30*) to seal the 22 point win.

Lullington Park started off their 2010 Premier League campaign with a 27 point win at home to Spondon. The home side made 137 all out, the final wicket falling in the 46th of their 50 overs and although it looked to be a below par total, it proved more than enough despite Spondon’s Chris Windmill taking 5-20 in an impressive spell of bowling.

Lullington’s bowling attack went one step better with George Chapman taking 4-11 in a man of the match performance. This resulted in Spondon being bowled out in 31.2 overs amassing a disappointing 93 runs despite Oliver Baum’s effort of 34 not out.

Pete Camm tore through the Quarndon order taking 6-40 for the visiting side Matlock. Quarndon could only reach 144, losing all ten wickets in 35 overs, despite Robin Williamson’s solid innings of 39. In response, Matlock lost their only four wickets as they made a total of 147 in 32.3 overs, with help from Matthew Cluer’s 67 not out to seal the game. The hosts were then left with four points from the tie to Matlock’s 22 for their first Premier League win.
