Ashdowns see Spondon into second
Ashdown brothers Ben and Joe had a day to remember after blasting away their opponents with bat and ball and leading Spondon into second place in the Beechwood Motor Group Derbyshire Premier Cricket League with their sixth maximum points win of the summer.
Ben Ashdown, who has had a modest season to date, smashed an unbeaten 128 against Elvaston while brother Joe posted 82 in Spondon's intimidating total of 290 for five with Ian Hall doing his best with 3-81.
Then, when the brothers were thrown the ball they made sure of a swift demolition as Ben swept through the Elvaston order with 4-27 and Joe backing up well with 3-34 as Elvaston were all out for 164.
Rob Kettlewell hit 46 but there were only two real contenders for man of the match awards.
The victory made no difference to the top of the table, though it reduced Ockbrook & Borrowash's lead to 46 points after they got a winning draw against Alfreton.
Ockbrook batted first amassing a huge total of 326 for eight with Johnny Owen top-scoring with 129. Charlie Ault had a knock of 43 and Chris Dunn hit 36 while Jonathon Clarke bowled well taking 3-67.
In their reply, Alfreton's Will Challoner made 140 and Andy Gwatkin 31 and for a while, it looked as if Ockbrook were in for a shock but in the end they were restricted to 282 for seven as Oliver Saffell took 3-83 for Ockbrook.
Chesterfield got a win batting second against Ilkeston this weekend. Ilkeston batted first scoring 249 for four in the 50 overs.

In reply, Chesterfield reached their target in 44.5 overs as Rob McCarroll scored 44 and Simon Lacey finished on 74 not out. Ross Whiteley was unbeaten on 63.

Alvaston & Boulton managed a maximum point win over Dunstall to make it two wins in a row which put them ahead of the side in the table. A & B batted first scoring a manageable 152 for nine.
Yasser Tariq hit 43 and David Lewis added 38 while John Sadler took 4-46. In reply, Dunstall failed to reach their target and their innings crumbled to 128 all out. Paul Shaw hit 31 while Nayan Doshi took 3-27.
Sandiacre moved into third after a winning draw away to Ticknall this weekend after failing to snare the last batsman. The visitors batted first scoring 244-8, Rob Attwood scored 66 while Tanvir Ahmed (3-59) and spinner Dave Tee (3-35) took three wickets a piece.
In reply, Ticknall couldn't quite reach their target in the 50 overs scoring 215 for nine. Luke Harvey (37) and Paul Borrington (37) put on 90 for the first wicket in reply but a flurry of quick wickets left the match finely poised with the score 201 for nine.
Ryan McFadyean (3-47) and Ian Parkin (4-70) both posed stern challenges but an unbeaten 31 from captain Graham Chamberlain saved them from defeat.
