Cassar seals Ockbrook win
Ockbrook stayed on top of the Beechwood SAAB Derbyshire Premier League after they defeated near neighbours Alvaston & Boulton with an over to spare.
Sandiacre beat Alfreton to stay second, and Lullington leapfrogged Chesterfield into third place with their win at Queen's Park.
Matlock continued their unbeaten run with a win over Spondon, while Dunstall prevailed in a low-scoring game at Ilkeston and Quarndon won the bottom of the table clash with Elvaston but remain among the relegation contenders.
A & B posted a score of 232 for seven against Ockbrook with Steve Stubbings leading the way with 53 and contributions coming Dave Tittersall who hit 69 and Hassan Adnan who made 58.
In their reply, Ockbrook & Borrowash made 233 for six. Their chase was led by man of the match Matt Cassar who hit 86, supported by George Morgan who made 35.
Ben Perry-Taylor finished with figures of 5-66, however this still left A & B with eight points and Ockbrook went away with 22.
Chesterfield only gained five points from this weekend’s low scoring visit from Lullington. The home side batted first and reached 158 all out on the final ball of their 50 over innings.
The only performance of the innings came from Chesterfield’s Ross Whitley who hit 36. Lullington took 22 points from their reply of 159 for six.
The side reached their total in 43.2 overs with Rudi Hillerman hitting 51 and Steve Rothwell contributing with an unbeaten 39.
Dunstall dominated Ilkeston Rutland away from home this weekend. The hosts Ilkeston made 150 for nine from their 50 overs.
James Lockhart hit the top score for the home side with 31 not out whilst Dunstall’s attack of Craig Jennings (5-47) and Martin Clewley (3-26) put the pressure on Ilkeston.
Dunstall then replied with 151 for seven in 48 overs. Contributions came from John Jennings with 64 as Ilkeston’s James Lockhart finished with figures of 3-47, although Ilkeston only went away with four points to Dunstall’s 22.
Matlock continue their successful promotion to the Premier League season with a win at Spondon this weekend. Spondon made 215 losing all ten wickets in 45.2 overs.
Performances came from Joe Ashdown with 53, Ollie Baum who made 40, Joe Kellogg reaching 38 and Dave Tainton 35.
The team’s batting performance was however overshadowed by the Matlock attack of Peter Camm who took 4-57 and Eddie Lowe who finished with figures of 3-26 to put Matlock in a good position going into their innings.
The visitors reached their total and made 216 for six with man of the match Kevin Leatherday making an unbeaten 93 to help his side to victory, supported by Matt Clewer who looked confident as he made 64 to give Matlock 22 points to Spondon’s seven.
Sam Van Daesdonk’s man of the match performance gave Quarndon the chance to add 27 point to their league total. The home side Quarndon batted first posting a score of 192.
The side were bowled out in 47.2 overs; however this was enough time for Josh Lowe to contribute with 53 and Mohammed Sultan to reach 46.
The Elvaston attack eventually dismissed the home side with Rob Kettlewell finishing with figures of 4-62 with Kane Callaghan taking 3-45 and Andy Rhodes assisting with 3-22.
In response, Elvaston made 121 before being bowled out in 39.3 overs. Briars hit 44 for the visitors however it was Sam Van Daesdonk’s demolishing figures of 5-20 that gave his side the win, leaving Elvaston with five points.
Alfreton lost out to Sandiacre this weekend as they only took eight points from the meeting. Alfreton hit 205 for nine with John Aspinall making 37 and Tom Bentley hitting an unbeaten 43.
Sandiacre’s Dan Wheeldon finished with figures of 3-60, but the side managed to dominate in the second innings of the match.
Sandiacre reached their total making 206-4 in 45.5 overs, contributions came from James Chapman who hit 44, John Trueman with the man of the match performance of 78 and Ant Woolley who added 37 giving the side 22 points.
