Champions Cavaliers go top

West Indian Cavaliers went top of the Nottinghamshire Premier League after Wollaton were heavily defeated and Clifton held to a draw.

Wollaton travelled to Papplewick who won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first restricting them to 127 for nine in their 50 overs, Tim Young top scoring with 30 and Phil DeFreitas taking 3-29.

Papplewick replied by getting the required runs in 38 overs, finishing on 128 for two with Alex Lloyd unbeaten on 63 and Timor Khan also scoring 35.

Cavaliers, the current champions gave a workmanlike performance at home to Kimberley where the visitors won the toss and batted first only to be bowled out for 141 in 48 overs.

Nick Langford top scored with 41 and John Terry 30, Mohammed Azeemi taking 3-25.

The Cavaliers then scored 142 for three in 38 overs, a comfortable seven wicket win with Dominic Williamson 35 and Andy Haye 32 not out to go top of the table.

Clifton Village played host to Caythorpe, the home side winning the toss, batting first and scoring 276 for six in their 50 overs.

Alex Hales scored 93 (8 fours, 3 sixes) and featured in a second wicket stand of 116 with Richard Harris, who carried his bat for 109 (8 fours, 2 sixes).

Tom Hemmings took 3-53 for Caythorpe who replied but could not match the required rate and finished 160 for seven in 50 overs, Josh Mierkalns scoring 37 and Jim Hindson 35 not out.

Clifton’s Peter Scott took 3-32 and Luke Fletcher 3-39 and the winning draw took them into second place in the table.

Cuckney maintained their good form at home to Attenborough where the visitors won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Cuckney reached 203 for eight in their 50 overs, helped by a first wicket stand of 98 by Dan Brown, 72 (9 fours) and Adam Burgess (31).

Attenborough’s Tom Murray took 4-33 but when they replied the visitors were bowled out for 114 in 34.4 overs, Alec McKinlay top scoring with 31. Tom Ullyott finished with 3-16.

Farnsfield were at home to Mansfield Hosiery Mills who won the toss and asked the home side to bat first.

Farnsfield scored 185 for nine in 50 overs, due largely to Michael Bell (64) and Paul Franks (44). Sudesh Fernando claimed 4-29 and Hosiery Mills then chased down the target, scoring 189 for three in 42 overs which included a first wicket stand of 100 between Hassan Adnan (71) and Matt New (34) to register a seven wicket win.

Last but not least, Welbeck travelled to Plumtree where the teams produced a good game of cricket and a very good individual performance by Welbeck’s Guy Darwin.

The visitors won the toss and asked Plumtree to bat first, going on to score 218 all out in 48.5 overs, Dallas Coull 61 and Nigel Finney 43.

Guy Darwin took 4-31 in the 49th over which included a hat trick. This gave Welbeck an extra over to chase the target of 219 to win, Matthew Higgins scoring 56 and Vikram Atri 47.

But the final plaudit was to go to Darwin who finished unbeaten on 59 from 51 balls and who the winning runs with a four in the 51st over, Welbeck finishing on 219 for six.
