Rain dealt the Cheshire ECB Premier League another heavy blow on Saturday though one of the two games completed reversed the fortunes of Chester Boughton Hall who ended a losing run with a fine seven wickets victory over Hyde at Filkins Lane.

Hyde batted well to run up 225 for five off 55 overs, Tom Twiney 55, Scott Kirwin 50, Chris Tipper 49. Undeterred at not having won since May 5, Chester opened up with a 94 stand between Warren Goodwin (60) and skipper Steve Ogilby, who went on to score 87.

Kumar Sarna, 39 not out and Lee Dixon 31, saw their side home by seven wickets with three overs to spare, chalking up 25 points to their visitors’ nine and hopping up two places in the process.

After a late start in Didsbury v Toft, home skipper Nick Anderson opted to bat and top-scored with 50 as his team posted a modest 132, Rob Jones 4-51, Jake Hancock 3-27.

Time was lost in Toft’s reply and left with 23 overs, they struggled to 79 for seven, Anderson 4-34 and Jan van Schalkwyck 3-32 with Didsbury taking just five points and Toft six.

There was 57 overs’ play at Oxton where Macclesfield scored 141, Rob Porter and Liam Markie top-scoring with 31 while Sri Lankan paceman Gayan Fernando claimed a splendid 6-57.

Oxton had reached 32 for one off nine overs - Lou Vincent 25 not out - when rain descended (7 pts. each.)

There was even less play – five balls – in the Alderley Edge v Urmston game at Bowden Lane, Alderley scoring 2-0 when the match was abandoned. Starts were not made in the Nantwich v Widnes and Neston v Marple games
