It had all the makings of a sensation when Plumtree had Clifton in the mire at 80 for seven and although the Nottinghamshire Premier Cricket League leaders staged a remarkable recovery, they failed to claim an outright victory against the bottom club.
The leaders won the toss, batted first but struggled to get to grips with Plumtree’s captain Scott Bailey who finished with 5-38 and Jurgen Charlesworth who claimed three wickets before letting Clifton off the hook with 246 for eight off their 50 overs.
Clifton's saviours were Paul Pollard who struck twelve fours and a six for 85 and skipper Simon Roberts (62) who put on 151 in 150 balls for the eighth wicket.
Plumtree then replied with Ben Storey making an unbeaten hundred and sharing stands of 69 with Dallas Coull (49) and 63 with Sam Storey but they could not reach the target in their overs, finishing on 202 for four to hold the leaders to a winning draw.
Papplewick travelled to Cuckney for what promised to be the clash of the day and on winning the toss asked the home side to bat first.
They scored 237 for six in 50 overs with Adam Burgess (64) figuring in a first wicket stand of 86 with Will Ullyott (49) and a second wicket stand of 85 with captain Will Butler. Richard Stroh also scored 31.
Best bowling figures for Papplewick was Martin Bekker’s 2-30 in three overs. When the visitors replied they were restricted by the Cuckney attack and were dismissed in 47 overs for 195, Alex Lloyd finishing with 52 and Jon Wakeling 30.
Dan Brown took 3-48 in 13 overs, Tom Ullyott 3-62 in 14 overs supported by Richard Stroh’s 2-32 in 10 overs.
Caythorpe were hosts to Wollaton where the visitors won the toss, chose to bat and were bowled out for 147, Ian Dodd and Tim Young both scoring 31.
Jim Hemmings took 3-16 off 11.2 overs and skipper Jim Hindson 3-33 off 15 overs.
When Caythorpe replied a first wicket stand of 97 between Guy Welton (61) and Hindson (31) in 22 overs, broke the back of the run chase for the home side.
Although they lost two more wickets they ran out comfortable winners finishing on 153 for three in the 37th over to hold onto second place in the table.
Kimberley, at home to Mansfield Hosiery Mills, won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Hosiery Mills made 233 for six in 50 overs with Hassan Adnan scoring 60 , Gareth Curtis 51 and skipper Keshera Jayasinghe 42 not out.
Kimberley’s Jon Shaw returned best figures with 2-57 off 13 overs and in their reply they reached 200 for eight in their 50 overs to earn a losing draw and keep them clear of the relegation battle.
Top scorer was Carl Blake with 36, next best was Mark Footitt with 29. Jayasinghe returned best bowling figures for Hosiery Mills with 3-28 off 13 overs.
Farnsfield were visitors to Welbeck, the home side winning the toss, electing to field and restricting Farnsfield to 195 for nine in their 50 overs, Steve Musgrove hitting 58 which included ten fours.
Welbeck captain Jon Ball took 4-38 in his 15 overs and the home side then timed their reply to perfection reaching 197 for two in 46 overs with Vikram Atri unbeaten on 92, Matt Higgins 35 and Noel Gie unbeaten on 30.
Attenborough faced a tough battle at home to West Indian Cavaliers, the visitors winning the toss and putting the home side in to bat first.
They made 200 for five in 50 overs with Alec McKinlay scoring 40, Martin Shoemaker 38 and Tom Murray 30 not out.
Orson Nurse returned the best figures for the Cavaliers with 2-38 off 10 overs and when they replied they reached the target with ten balls to go, making 202 for six with Mortaza Ali scoring 52, Aaron Thomas 47, Dominic Williamson 35 not out and Kamran Afzaal 32 not out.
Attenborough’s captain, Adam Simkiss took 4-50 in 15 overs, three of the wickets being caught and bowled.
