Cornish cream held to draw
The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Premier League in 2008 continues to be dominated by St Just who despite being held to a draw at home to Werrington, increased their lead to 50 points with six games to go.
St Just's 244 for four was built on a fourth-wicket stand of 121 between Darren Cudby who made 87 not out and Gavin Edwards with 45 after David Roberts had earlier made 30, Neil Curnow 33 and Gary Thomas 22.
Darren Johns bowled a fine spell unchanged to take 3-40 from 16 overs. Werrington reached 97 for one before Matt Robins (65) and Mark Horwell (24) fell in successive balls but Ben Smeeth held the rest of the innings together making 71 not out as the visitors ended 30 runs short with three wickets remaining with Mark George taking 3-63.
Bottom club Grampound Road pulled off a surprise win against second placed Truro, completing their two wicket win with five balls to spare.
Truro lost five wickets for 88 before Alex Tunnadine made 50 with good support from the lower order to get the total to 190 all out after Tom Sharp had earlier hit 28. The wickets were shared with Chris Roberts, Tom Turner, Chris Hunkin and Ben Rowse taking two each.
Jake Preston made 46 but it was South African all-rounder Mpho Sekhoto who steered the visitors home with his unbeaten 95 while Alex Taylor finished with 4-30.
Falmouth got the best of a high-scoring draw at St Austell where the home team's last pair of Steve Raven (24 not out) and Liam Watson batted out more than three overs at the end.
Larry Martin made exactly 100 for Falmouth and Antony Angove scored 76 as the pair put on 134 for the third wicket while Matt Rowe took 5-84 in a flurry of late wickets.
St Austell were well served by Dan Jarman (58), Rowe (53) and Mike Bone (35) but in the end did well to survive from 205 for eight after Dave Neville took 3-54.
Newquay's survival hopes suffered a blow with 27 run home defeat to Paul. The visitors were 110 for six before Andrew Snell hit a useful 35.
Craig Osborne, Ryan Edwards, Kelvin Snell and Dave Twigg all passed the 20 mark. Tom Brooks and Godfrey Furse both took three wickets.
Newquay's innings followed a similar pattern having been 71 for six before Rob Harrison made 35. Furse was 22 not out when the innings ended with 10 overs remaining. Twigg took 4-39 and Kelvin Snell 3-30.
