Champions St Just beat Callington at home by 67 runs to take maximum points with three balls to spare in the Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League.
Having been put in to bat, they lost Neil Curnow with the score at 22. Davis Roberts (27) and Liam Devine (20) added 44 before three wickets fell in quick succession including Gary Thomas without scoring.
Gavin Edwards rescued the innings to make 65 not out and skipper Gareth May made 45 in the total of 209 for nine.
Dan Davis took 3-37 then made 52 but the Callington innings fell away from a promising 55 for two. Joe White hit 30 before becoming one of two victims for Roberts. Mark George was effective and economical taking 3-10 off his 10 overs and with two matches of the season completed, St Just are already dominating the competition.
Newquay got off to a winning start with a 26 run home victory over Falmouth. Newcomer James Newnham (34) and Rob Harrison (37) added 69 for the second wicket after the early loss of Martin Pearce.
Adam Cocking made 19 as the home team mustered 132 for nine. Falmouth’s attack shared the wickets with two apiece for Duncan Ayres, Stefan Churcher, Jon Udy and Chris Johnson on his debut.
Adrian Noott (22) and Churcher (25) steered the total to 39 for one after Steve Williams went cheaply. From thereon Newquay’s bowlers took control as Godfrey Furse sent down ten miserly overs to take 3-8. Newnham also took 3-34 while Harrison and Pearce were economic in taking two apiece.
Truro overcame Paul at Boscawen Park by 31 runs. After losing Jon Kent and Chris Martin for 10 Tom Sharp made 44. Kyle van Rooyen with 27 and Alex Taylor (22) added useful runs down the order in the total of 161 for nine.
Justin Stephens, opening the bowling, took 4-16 from ten overs. Andrew Snell (15) and Ryan Edwards, who top scored with 18, added 34 for the first wicket.
Seven batsmen got double figures but Truro got home comfortably by 31 runs with ten balls remaining. Chris Phillips took 3-16 and Chad Ruddy, on debut, 3-21.
Werrington recovered from 19 for two to post 182 for four in a 42 over game at St Austell, after a delayed start. Alex Smeeth made 76 not out sharing an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 106 with Sam Hockin but St Austell ended 22 runs short. From 101 for seven, Simon Ellison made a valiant 35 and Libby 34 after Taylor Williams made 23 but by then Ian Worsnip had wrecked the top order taking 5-39 from nine overs.
