Haxey make it look easy
The 2012 Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League season finally got under way with newcomers Haxey retaining their early lead with a 20 point victory at Bourne.
Skipper Mark Atkins took 5-17 to help bowl the home side out for 151, a total Haxey overtook for the loss of four wickets.
Sleaford shrugged off last weekend’s heavy defeat to trounce Hartsholme by eight wickets at London Road after bowling their guests out for just 78.
Grimsby also bounced back, recording the day’s highest total of 240 for six at Augusta Street, Richard Antcliffe hitting 83.
However, the bowlers were unable to finish off visitors Louth who hung on to claim an extra three points with 182 for nine.
Champions Bracebridge Heath hosted an excellent opening game at Cross O’ Cliff Court that brought three half centuries and a five wicket haul.
Skegness batted first and reached 228 for eight, Peter Houghton adding to last week’s century with an innings off 67 and Oliver Pringle making 50 while Matt Bradley got his season off to a good start with five wickets.
Brett Houston then hit 58 and Paul Cook made a welcome return to the crease with an unbeaten 49 as Bracebridge Heath claimed victory with 232 for seven.
Market Deeping’s new signing, Australian Tom Atallah, took five wickets at Boston where were all out for 103. Jamie Morgan then hit 58 off 60 balls as Deeping claimed a seven wicket win.
And Lindum also suffered at the hands of an overseas player as Ben O’Brien took 5-42 for Woodhall Spa. Lindum were all out for 118, but the visitors were made to battle all the way, losing seven wickets before reaching their target.
