Malan has magic touch in Middlesex

Shepherd Neame Middlesex County Cricket League

On Wednesday, 20 year-old Dawid Malan was at Lord’s helping Middlesex to complete their Friends Provident win over Essex and three days later he was in blistering form at Harman Drive, hitting 63 from 42 balls to help Middlesex Premier League leaders Teddington defeat Brondesbury by three wickets.

The talented opening batsman who was born in Roehampton and brought up in South Africa struck three sixes and seven fours to give Teddington a pulsating start in their reply to Brondesbury’s 189.

Team-mate Ben Duncan was more sedate in his run-gathering but his 58 was equally important in earning Teddington a bumper 10 points to consolidate their lead at the top of the table and make them a real contender for the 2008 title.

Second-placed Hampstead, seven points adrift after four matches, recorded a resounding 60-run win over Eastcote. Batting first, their 151 total looked well short of a par score until Zac Khan decided it was plenty as he took 5-46.

However, it was captain Paul Weekes who accounted for Andy Coleman, the only batsman to pose a threat as Eastcote fell apart in 35 overs to register their second defeat of the season.

Remaining winless and at the bottom of the table, Brentham won the toss but lost their match against Finchley mustering just 105 in reply to the home side’s 198 for six declared.
