Caythorpe's chances of repeating their 2006 triumph were dealt a severe blow when they suffered a 59-run defeat at the hands of rivals Applewick who have now become favourites for the 2008 Notts Premier League title.
Papplewick made just 157 in their 50 overs but Caythorpe replied limply with 98 crashing out with eight overs remaining.
Defending champions West Indian Cavaliers also posted a win over Mansfield Hosiery Mills, reaching their 83 target in the 16th over for the loss of two wickets while Kimberley weighed in with a 154 run win over Plumtree to stay in the hunt for second place.
Killamarsh completed a 43 run win over Welbeck to keep the relegation demons at bay but Gedling's run of poor form continued with a three wicket defeat at Cuckney to consign them to lower division cricket in 2009.
Tom Savill took five wickets and Paul McMahon four as Clifton won at Wollaton by 47 runs.
