Park and Friedlander see Granta home

East Anglia Premier League leaders Cambridge Granta made the surprise decision to bat first when they won the toss against Clacton.

But it proved to be a most prudent decision. The visitors opening partnership at Clare yielded 75 before Martyn Cull was run out following excellent work in the field from Sean Park who was lying flat on the ground when his throw at the stumps made a direct hit.

Ben Foakes went on to enhance his growing reputation with a knock of 62. He and Andy Turner (42) were the only other batsmen to make any telling contribution as Clacton were all out in the 65th over for 226.

Granta were soon in trouble, losing their top three with just 44 on the board, but a fourth wicket stand of 122 between Craig Park (65) and Matt Friedlander (87) inched them to their target.

Friedlander, who had been struggling with a knee injury, had earlier returned 2-13. Sean Park made an unbeaten 29 to see Granta across the finishing line with six overs to spare.Vauxhall Mallards continued their recent good form in the Gibbs Denley East Anglia Premier League with a comfortable victory over Burwell at Mingay Park.

Mallards won the toss and batted first, racking up 253 for nine from their 66 overs with Carl Amos getting 54 and Peter Free 71.

They then proceeded to bowl Burwell out for 163 in a touch under 40 overs with Martin Addison recording a seasons best 6-40 from 11.3 overs.

Bury won the toss at Highfield Lawn and asked Fakenham to bat first. Gayan Wijekoon (68) and Ben Harvey (59) were the mainstays of their 225 for nine from their 56 overs, while Tom Rash picked up a five wicket haul.

Bury's openers Tom Huggins (81) and Peter Turnbull (53) put on 109 for the first wicket and set the platform from which they were never going to lose.

Nick Lee (37) and 30 not out from Ollie Huggins saw then comfortable winners by five wickets with four overs to spare.

There was a very high scoring draw at Great Witchingham where Norwich rattled up 324 for six from 63 overs With the highlights being 135 from Harry Bush and 86 from Chris Borrett.

The hosts replied with 267 for six from 60, Tom Collishaw top scoring with 61

Halstead's miserable season continued as they were on the wrong end of a nine wicket thrashing by Horsford at Manor Park.

Halstead won the toss and batted first, a decision they must have regretted as they were bundled out for just 99 in the 50th over.

Nathan Perry-Warnes (47) was Halstead's only wicket as Matt Warnes (43 not out) and Jonathan Atkinson eased Horsford home with a massive 44 overs remaining.

At The Common, Swardeston won the toss and batted first against Saffron Walden. Jaden Hatwell lead the way with 118 as the home side made 238 for nine after 62 overs.

Walden never threatened the target with Jason Gallian (53) making the only score of note. Richard Sims made up for his failure with the bat to record 6-55 as Walden closed on 186 for seven from 53 overs.
