Porthill's Masood shines in the gloom

In another week hit by rain, the North Staffs and South Cheshire Premier League saw four games abandoned due to the weather though the fixture between Hem Heath and Porthill survived long enough for a draw to result.

Hem Heath batted first and declared on 150 for seven from 54.4 overs, Ben Mcguire maintaining the run rate with 58. Fahad Masood was the pick of the bowlers for Porthill with figures of 5-43. In reply Porthill closed their innings on 101 for four from 11 overs, Masood smashing 52 off 25 balls.

Checkley's Jason Brown a class act

In the local derby between Checkley and Cheadle only one innings was completed. Checkley won the toss and decided to bowl and dismissed the away side for 138 in the 53rd over, Dave Wheeldon top scoring with 40, Dan Knight and former England A spinner Jason Brown taking three wickets.

Only 28 overs were playable when Wood Lane visited top of the table Leek. The away side batted and managed to make 76 for two, Jamie Jervis finishing 43 not out.

Second place Longton travelled to Little Stoke and managed to get a full 55 overs in before the inevitable rain. The home side’s opener Richard Adams (60 not out) was the mainstay of the innings as they posted 153 for seven, but they weren’t able to get back on for the second innings.

There were 34 overs played at Burslem as they entertained Stone, leaving the home side stranded on 88 for three, and eight overs between Audley and Knypersley.
