Rain cuts Granta lead

ECB logo - small version

Cambridge Granta's match against 2009 East Anglian Premier League champions Vauxhall Mallards fell foul of the weather without a ball being bowled but Granta stay top with a 19 point lead.

Fakenham and Clacton's match at Highfield Lawn was also rain affected. Clacton won the toss and asked Fakenham to bat first in a match reduced to a 60/50 split.

Ben Harvey (57 not out) and Sean Cooper (42) were the main contributors in their 224 for six from their 60 overs.

Clacton's reply was further hit by rain, which meant their innings was reduced to 44 overs, in which they made 152 without loss with Ben France making 55 not out and Ben Foakes 82 not out.

James Spelman continued his fine form with 53 for Great Witchingham against Bury but it was to prove to be in vain as the visitors recorded a five wicket win.

Spelman was the only Witchingham batsman to pass 30 as they reached 175 for seven from their reduced allocation of 56 overs.

Tom Rash was the most successful Bury bowler, recording figures of 5-46.

Bury's victory was achieved in the 45th over, thanks in the main to 71 not out from Nick Lee.

James Craig's 68 was the mainstay of the Burwell innings in their win over Horsford. Only Glenn Goosen and Frans Bester made double figures as Burwell amassed 178 all out in the 60th over.

Despite 72 from Matthew Warnes and 30 from Chris Sabburg, the rest of the Horsford batsmen managed only 51 between them as they were bowled out for 153 leaving Burwell victorious by 25 runs.

For the second week running, Saffron Walden's Darren Cousins picked up five wickets. This time, it was Norwich who were on the receiving end as Walden went back to Essex with a five wicket win.

Norwich made 129 for nine from their allotted (rain reduced) 41 overs, Jason Blake top scoring with 36. Walden made it in the 33rd over for the loss of five wickets, Nick Hurford making 39.

Hapless Halstead were thrashed by 158 runs at Swardeston. Jaden Hatwell's return to form continued with 103 and with Peter Lambert contributing 76, Swardeston racked up an impressive 262 for six declared from 55 overs.

Halstead's age old problem with their batting was again evident as only four batsmen reached double figures and they were bundled out for just 104. George Walker was Swardeston's most successful bowler with 5-26 from 12 overs.
