Three in a row for Havant
Havant clinched a third successive ECB Southern Electric Premier League championship with a seven wicket win over Bashley (Rydal) adding another 22 points to their 2009 season's tally.
Former Hampshire batsman Lawrie Prittipaul put in a devastating spell with the new ball which stymied Bashley (Rydal)'s attempts to post a defendable total, restricting them to 167.
Richard Morris (62), another former Hampshire player and Perth-bound Gavin Bailiff (31) rallied but Bashley's 167 was never likely to test Havant, for whom Chris Morgan (49), Prittipaul (39) and Ben Walker (30) completed the formalities.
South Wilts remain second, 13 points clear of Bournemouth, despite a 76-run defeat by the Hampshire Academy at Lower Bemerton. Matt Kleinveldt (63) and Benn Howell (61) underpinned the Young Hawks' 230 for seven, a target South Wilts never threatened. Howell's nine overs cost seven runs.
Totton & Eling edged a one-wicket win against Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup winners Lymington. Their first success in seven weeks came off the first ball of the final over at Southern Gardens, where the Eels rallied from 47 for three. James Manning and Azimunnoor Chowdhury added 86 for Totton. Christian Pain hit 50 and took three wickets for Lymington.
Only 12 points separate residents in the ECB Southern Electric Premier League basement, where St Cross Symondians have the advantage over Andover going into Saturday's final round of matches. The pair face demanding games, with Andover hosting champions Havant at London Road and St Cross in action agaist the Hampshire Academy on the Rose Bowl Nursery Ground.
Andover threw themselves the proverbial lifeline with a 23-run win at Bournemouth, who collapsed from 111-3 to 152 chasing 175 at Chapel Gate. Matt Hooper (3-37) and the Miller brothers turned the match on its head. Roger Miller earlier hit 65 for Andover.
St Cross Symondians, meanwhile were left biting their fingernails after a thumping 110-run defeat by a Dave Taylor inspired Alton. Taylor hit 94 of Alton's 245 for eight and later, alongside Jerry Pang-Kessler, re-arranged the St Cross top order with a 3-23 spell. Only Charlie Cooke (57) inspired St Cross.
