St Just less robust

St Just have dominated the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Premier League in the past six years but could find their crown plundered by Paul in 2010.

Despite their draw against Falmouth in the latest round of matches, Paul have created an 18 point lead at the top of the table.

On a hot and sunny weekend, they set out on the seventh round of matches but narrowly failed to record a seventh straight win when Falmouth’s last pair held out for a draw.

Paul had recovered to make 222 for eight and in reply Falmouth closed on 190 for nine.

St Just had an easy nine wicket win over bottom club Penzance at Cape Cornwall Road to move up to second.

Penzance were 120 all out and St Just reached their target for the loss of one wicket with the game over in 51 overs not long after four o’clock.

Callington dropped to third after losing at home to Truro by four wickets. Callington made 201 for six.

Truro replied with 202 for six with Tom Sharp making 78.

Chris Hunkin’s great form continued as he hit 109 for Grampound Road in their big total of 276 for five at Newquay.

The home team struggled to 103 all out in reply.

St Austell had to settle for a draw at home to Werrington after making 266 for six with Matthew Rowe contributing 84.

Werrington’s last pair survived the last two overs to end on 230 for nine.
