Swarkestone snap at Chesterfield heels
A thrilling finale at Swarkestone saw the home side squeeze to a narrow one wicket win over Ticknall to move within five points of early leaders Chesterfield in the Beechwood MG Derbyshire Premier League.
Swarkestone pipped Ticknall’s 158 all out with just one ball to spare, making full use of an extra over gained by bowling their visitors out in the 49th over.
Chesterfield were struggling for the second week running, this time at Dunstall, coming up short on 143 for eight chasing the host’s 195 for seven.
Dunstall are now third as a result. The teams in third and fourth place in the table are there without even having won a match which reflects the appalling weather.
Denby suffered their first top-flight defeat with last season’s runners-up Sandiacre Town sealing a fairly comfortable four wicket win and reigning champions Ockbrook & Borrowash also made up lost ground by collecting 20pts from a winning-draw at Alvaston & Boulton.
Matt Lineker hit a century for Ockbrook and next best innings of the day was by Raja Sohail Haider whose superb unbeaten 90 helped Rolls Royce Leisure hang on for a draw at Quarndon.
The 10 points gained by Royces sees them move off the bottom of the table at the expense of Spondon whose first action of the season ended in a heavy defeat to Lullington Park.
