Werrington knock spots off Newquay
Werrington continue to set the pace in the weather-affected Jolly's Drinks Cornwall League.
The rain hit 79-run win over Newquay provided a handy early season 14-point advantage over perennial champions St Just.
While Mark Horwell (63) was prominent in Werrington's 171 for six, Sam Hockin (4-25) and Alex Smeeth (3-19) were the real match winners, reducing Newquay to a shaky 35 for seven before the innings subsided to 92 all out.
St Just returned to winning ways, making 162 for seven against third-placed Truro who, like Newquay, saw their top order collapse against the new ball.
They sank to 39 for six and eventually 127 all out, with Nick George taking 4-21.
Callington continue to search for a first win after suffering a two-wicket defeat to St Austell, in another rain-affected affair which was notable for its batting collapses.
Callington lost seven wickets for 30 runs after appearing comfortable at 44 without loss.
They posted 102 (Jamie Hatch 33), but saw St Austell limp across the line by two wickets. Dan Jarman (47) eased St Austell to 81 for three but a five-wicket spell by Jim Shorten (5-35) almost undid his hard graft.
Paul, meanwhile, hauled themselves off the bottom with an 84-run win over Falmouth. Kelvin Snell, with 87 off 76 balls, and Justin Stephens (53) helped Paul post 178 for eight. Snell (3-12) wrecked Falmouth's top order before Stephen Richards (3-16) weighed in to sink the visitors for 94.
