Werrington in command despite rain

Werrington strengthened their hold on the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Premier League leadership, even though their potential banker home game with basement club Callington was washed out.

A 42-run defeat of second placed champions St Just by Falmouth means there is now a 12-point gap at the top.

Falmouth’s 225 for eight was held together by Antony Angove (78). Stefan Churcher (37) gave good support and added 82 for the third wicket.

Larry Martin hit 31 off 20 balls before St Just openers David Roberts (56) and Neil Curnow (47) put on 107 in just 19 overs.

Incredibly, the defending champions crashed to 183 all out with almost five overs remaining.

Newquay won an exciting rain-cut 40 over game at Truro by two wickets off the penultimate ball. Truro’s innings was dominated by former Newquay player Barry Purchase, who made 100 not out against his old teammates.

James Walton (30) and Tom Sharp (20) pushed Newquay on to 186 for five.

Adam Cocking lead the way for Newquay with 58. Four runs were needed off the last over, bowled by Kyle van Rooyen, to win.

He bowled Furse then after the scores were levelled had Mark O’Mahoney stumped. Tom Eggins then hit the winning boundary off the fifth ball.

St Austell made a fine comeback to defeat Paul by 112 runs at Wheal Eliza.

Kelvin Snell (6-42) ran riot early on at St Austell slumped to 43 for five before Taylor Williams (92) and Mike Bone (46) added 113. The innings ended at 225 all out with Snell taking 6-42.

Snell (42) was then the only batsman to offer much for Paul, who slipped from 87 for three to 113 all out (Andrew Libby 5-21).
