Losers turn winners in south
Three unbeaten starts were ended in the Southern Electric Premier League, where champions Havant were also denied maximum points when they were held to a tie by St Cross Symondians.
Bournemouth, newly promoted Lymington and Totton & Eling all saw their two-match 50-over winning starts ended, all ironically by sides that had not previously won.
Bournemouth crashed to 58 for nine after being put into bat on an initially bowler friendly surface at South Wilts, though their collapse owed more to poor batting than any demons in the pitch.
Craig de Weymarn (55) featured in a half-century last wicket stand but Bournemouth were unable to defend 115 and were beaten by eight wickets.
With former Buckinghamshire opener David Taylor appearing in a player/coach capacity, Alton looked a far more positive outfit - as Lymington found to their cost.
Taylor (65) and Howard Gadsby (58) underpinned Alton's 241 for seven, while Lymington were going nicely at 114 for one only to subside against the nagging off-spin of Julian Ballnger and slump to 197 all out.
England Under-19 all-rounders Chris Wood (79) and Hamza Riazuddin (53) pointed the Hampshire Academy to 217 for seven against Totton, who owed much to James Manning (57) for their 156 response.
Richard Morris (69), released by Hampshire last season and former Dorset opener Neil Thurgood (64) batted Andover (162) out of the game and set up a second consecutive win for Bashley (Rydal).
Havant were put to the sword by Hampshire left-hander Jimmy Adams (96) and Exeter University's Archie Fellowes (88), who shared a 182-run opening partnership for St Cross Symondians and set Havant a tough 227-run chase.
In contrasting innings, Adams faced 115 balls and struck six fours and a six while Fellowes' 88 came off 142 balls with just two fours.
Everyone in the top order made starts, but in a dramatic finale, Havant suffered two last over run-outs - the second off the last ball - and were dismissed for 227.
