The Primary Club, which raises money to help blind and partially sighted people enjoy sport, has launched the Brian Johnston Award for winners of its annual six-a-side tournament.
The trophy has been donated to the club in honour of the late Brian Johnston by his widow Pauline, who wanted to maintain the connection between her husband and the charity.
Johnston was a great friend to The Primary Club and never missed an opportunity to mention them on Test Match Special.
Twelve teams – each helped by a guest professional cricketer – compete in the annual fundraising tournament, which will this year be held on Friday, August 18 at Shenley in Hertfordshire.
The trophy, a silver-plated wicketkeeping glove mounted on a wooden ‘chocolate cake’, combines two of Johnston’s favourite pastimes and will be presented by Pauline to the team that emerges victorious.
