Durham host Special Schools Festival
Over 70 children were at Durham's Riverside ground on Wednesday for the 2005 Special Schools Cricket Festival.
The children ranged from the ages of six to 16 and the festival took place alongside the first team training session before ending with an awards ceremony on the pitchside to reward all the teams who took part.
Sunningdale (Sunderland), Durham Trinity (Durham City), Castle Green (Sunderland), Beaumont Hill (Darlington), Portland Hill (Sunderland) and Springwell School all participated in the day's Kwik Cricket event.
Durham Trinity and Springwell School shared the most wins but the overall victory was awarded to Springwell for scoring more runs throughout the competition.
Durham’s cricket development officer Nick Brown said: "All of the children really enjoyed themselves and it seems that the coaching they had at their schools before the festival has really paid off.
“The competition was tight but our overall winners definitely put in some excellent performances. I would like to thank H J Banks, Northumbrian Water Ltd, the Esh Group and Sportsmatch for supporting the day's events."
