Three in a row for Table Cricket champs Victoria School
The Lord's Taverners National Table Cricket Competition 2005
Victoria School from Poole won The Lord's Taverners National Table Cricket Competition for the third year in a row, beating Bruntcliffe School from Leeds in a tight final.
Batting first, Victoria School set a formidable target of 281 for one. Bruntcliffe School did well to post an excellent score of 242 for two, but this was not enough to take the championship trophy away from Victoria School.
Former EastEnders star, Hannah Waterman, was on hand to offer encouragement and to present the winner's trophy.
Table Cricket is a competitive team game designed for young people who have physical impairments. It retains all of the main aspects of cricket: batting, bowling, fielding and tactics.
Other schools to take part in the final were:
- Penn Hall School, Wolverhampton
- Marjorie McClure School, Chislehurst
- National Star Centre, Cheltenham
- Mere Oaks School, Wigan
- Fountaindale School, Nottingham
- Valence School, Kent
A total of 41 schools competed in the regional heats held at county cricket grounds throughout April, with over 400 young people taking part in the competition.
Table Cricket is support by the England and Wales Cricket Board. And the National Table Cricket programme is joint-funded by The Lord's Taverners, ECB and Abbey National. With training support coming from The Youth Sport Trust.
The role out of this programme is also supported by Schools involved in the Step in to Sport campaign, who help run both the regional events and the National Final.
