The curtain has gone up on the new North Gear 2020 Premier League which was established to bring all the thrills and excitements of the county game to local Club crowds.
And it was a large and enthuasiastic crowd that turned out for the first match when Bedminster Bulldogs took on Uphill Castle Calypso's and played with the same sort of energy and pace that has made the county version such a popular success.
Bedminster Bulldogs posted a healthy 201-8 in their 20 overs and in reply Uphill Castle Calypso's set off at a determined pace, reaching 103-5 in the ninth over but with everything to play for, the heavens opened and the rain fell which sent the players scurrying off for cover leaving Uphill Castle Calypso's the winners by three runs using the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
Uphill Castle Calypso's Captain, John Davidson said:"We are delighted to win the first North Gear 2020 match ever. It is a great format to be a part of and playing in coloured clothing gives the game extra pace. Both teams delivered great 2020 cricket today and as a Team we played some of our best cricket. We are looking forward to our next matches in this well-organised tournament."
North Gear 2020 Premier League takes Twenty20 Cricket to local communities building the 2nd 2020 division in the UK played to the first-class format in coloured clothing and this match showed that Premier League Clubs are capable of producing entertainment of the highest quality. The Grand Finals Day will be played on September 30 and televised by Sky Sports.
