Tanvir set to join up with Worcestershire
Worcestershire are hopeful Pakistan paceman Sohail Tanvir can finally link up with the county for their Friends Life t20 clash with Somerset on Sunday.
Tanvir was initially due to be available for all 10 Midlands/Wales/West Group matches after compatriot Saeed Ajmal pulled out, only to be called into Pakistan’s squad as an injury replacement for their one-day international series in Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, his arrival at New Road was then delayed while his Visa was being processed in Islamabad.
Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale admits that the affair has been frustrating, but is confident that the seamer can be available for the weekend.
“The delay is frustrating but we have no control over what happens several thousand miles away,” Leatherdale said.
“We are now just waiting for the Visa to be rubber-stamped in Pakistan; as soon as that happens, Sohail can jump on a plane straight away and be here.
“If that happens imminently, which we believe is the case, he will hopefully be here in time for the game at Somerset on Sunday.
"If Sohail is here for then, it would still mean he could play in the remaining group games.”
