The ECB and MCC have announced the MCC Women’s Young Cricketers squad for the 2013 season.

The squad includes England women’s quartet of Tammy Beaumont, Amy Jones, Sarah Taylor and Danni Wyatt with a further eight players selected from the England women’s academy.

Each player will work to a bespoke ‘player development plan’ to help prepare for the challenges faced in playing international cricket and engage in, on average, around 30 hours of training or match time per week.

The fixture schedule for the squad features games against boys’ county sides and strong schoolboy teams.

It is the second year of the collaboration between MCC and the ECB, with the programme once more led by England women’s head coach Mark Lane with assistance from Lisa Keightly, England women’s academy head coach and former Australia women’s captain.

MCC head of cricket John Stephenson said: “MCC is absolutely delighted to once again join-up with the ECB to deliver the MCC Women’s Young Cricketers programme for the 2013 season.

“The club is a very proud supporter of women’s cricket, and it is fantastic that we can now offer such a dynamic and purposeful programme for some of the brightest young talents in England to intensively develop their skills at Lord’s during the summer.

“In particular, the opportunity for some of the younger players in the squad, such as 18-year-old Jess Watson from Yorkshire, to be able to share a dressing room with seasoned international performers like Sarah Taylor and Danni Wyatt is invaluable, so I hope all the players make the most of their summer.”

ECB head of women’s cricket Clare Connor added: “We are excited about another season working with MCC to develop some of our highest potential women’s cricketers.

“The scheme is going from strength to strength. We look forward to a summer of even more exciting opportunities and performances.”
