Buckingham and Taunton hold their nerve
Buckingham Town Maidens and Taunton Cricket Club celebrated despite rain wreaking havoc at the Lady Taverners Girls' South and West Regional Final.
The inclement weather meant both the under-13 and under-15 programmes were washed out forcing organisers to set up bowl-out competitions on the all weather surface at Chapel Gate and Bournemouth Cricket Club.
In both age groups, each of the seven sides played each other with three points awarded for a win and one for a loss. Each player bowled two deliveries and the team with the most points was crowned champion.
In the under-13s, Buckingham Town Maidens held their nerve to win five of their six matches, narrowly edging out South Wilts on wickets taken to win the title.
Taunton and Bristol Phoenix ensured the under-15 category went to the wire with the Somerset side eventually winning by two points.
England's Lydia Greenway made the post-match presentations with the winning sides taking their place at the national finals at the end of August.
