Buck stops with Hannah

Hannah Buck was Yorkshire's hero after she held her nerve to bowl her side to a thrilling one-run win over Sussex in the final of the Under-17 County Championship.

Buck was handed the ball with Sussex needing nine runs off a nerve-jangling last over.

Buck seemed on the verge of seeing her side to glory after conceding just five runs from five balls, but she handed Sussex a lifeline by bowling a no-ball with her final delivery.

Buck regained her composure and conceded just a single off the extra delivery to spark celebrations from her Yorkshire team-mates.

Earlier in the day Yorkshire made a fine start after being inserted as openers Charlotte Boulton and Aimee Simms put on 58 for the first wicket.

Boulton shared another half-century stand - this time 61 for the third wicket with Jessica Watson - before she was eventually run out for 54, the game's top score.

Buck then added a quickfire 20 at the end of the innings to propel Yorkshire to 168 for five from their 45 overs.

Hannah Phelps, Lucy Uncles and Izi Noakes each took a wicket for Sussex.

Sussex made an equally good start in their reply with Georgia Adams and Chiara Green sharing a 56-run opening partnership.

Both fell in quick succession but Melissa Ferguson and Phelps joined forces and took Sussex towards championship glory with a 79-run stand.

Yorkshire had other ideas, however, dismissing the pair in consecutive overs to throw the game wide open.

Simms then took two wickets in her final over to leave Sussex on 143 for six. The South Coast side had lost four wickets for just five runs.

Sussex would have still rated their chances with 23 runs needed off five overs with four wickets in hand but none of their batsmen could get going in the final overs.
