Hurricanes blow away Ransome

Hayes Hurricanes won the Women's Premier League for the first time in their history after thrashing Ransome & Marles by 214 runs.

Having posted a daunting 266 for nine from 50 overs, Hayes ran through the Ransome & Marles batting line-up with Charlotte Anneveld taking 3-13.

Hayes skipper Lynsey Askew won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision which looked suspect when she was the first batsman dismissed with just nine runs on the board.

But that was as good as it got for the Nottinghamshire side as Hayes dominated from then on.

Lauren Penny and Katherine Leng joined forces and put on 81 for the second wicket before the latter became one of four batsmen to fall victim to Sonia O'Dedra.

Penny was next to go, bowled by O'Dedra for 52, leaving the stage set for England batsman Lydia Greenway to take over.

She was the mainstay of the innings, hitting 11 fours before she was finally dismissed for 74 which came from 94 deliveries.

She put on substantial partnerships with the lower order - 41 runs for the seventh wicket with Sara Kennett and 45 for the eighth wicket with Emily Clarke - which took the game away from Ransome & Marles.

The bowling side were architects of their own downfall, leaking 44 runs in wides.

Ransome & Marles' reply began disastrously when openers Amanda Bacon and Rachel Scholes both perished leaving their side 10 for two.

Askew then bowled Abbie Hawkins for just one which meant any hope Ransome & Marles had of an unlikely win rested on Jenny Gunn's shoulders.

The England all-rounder did her best by creaming four boundaries but having reached 23, she was run out which pretty much ended the game as a contest.

Anneveld did most of the damage as Ransome & Marles collapsed in style, slipping from 45 for four to 52 all out.
