The Mote Ladies CC from Kent won the inaugural indoor U13 Lady Taverners National title – adding it to the Lady Taverners outdoor Trophy they won in 2005.
The 2006 Finals took place at Edgbaston Cricket Centre on Sunday April 23. From the 200 teams across 30 counties that started the competition before Christmas, four regional winners battled it out in a round robin contest to be crowned National Champions.
The games were all closely fought and although tensions were high and the will to win very evident, all the girls should be congratulated on the excellent spirit in which each and every game was played.
In one of the first round of games it came down to the last ball of the game, with St Aidans Church of England High School from Yorkshire beating Kings Norton School from Warwickshire by one run! In the other game, The Mote Ladies CC from Kent beat Portsmouth CC from Hampshire.
First Round
St Aidans 63-5 beat Kings Norton 62-5
The Mote 96-1 beat Portsmouth 64-6
Second Round
The Mote 87-7 beat Kings Norton 77-8
St Aidans 74-0 beat Portsmouth 53-3
After the first two rounds, both St Aidans and The Mote had won both their games, so the final game became the ‘Final’ - and in a very close and tense game, The Mote were victorious by just five runs.
Third Round
Kings Norton 77-3 beat Portsmouth 51-3
The Mote 73-5 beat St Aidans 68-3
The presentations were made by Rachel Heyhoe-Flint, President of the Lady Taverners and former England Women’s captain, former Warwickshire and England bowler Tim Munton of the Lord Taverners – and Nicky Shaw, of Nottinghamshire and England Women.
Congratulations to The Mote Ladies, who have now added the Lady Taverners Indoor National Trophy to the Lady Taverners (outdoor) Trophy they won in 2005.
Thank you must go to the Lady Taverners for their generous and continued support of U13 cricket both indoor and outdoor for schools and clubs across the country, and also to the parents, guardians, managers, coaches and scorers from all the clubs who took part in the competition.
