England cricketer Holly Colvin has been named as Female Pupil of the Year in The Daily Telegraph/Norwich Union ‘School Sport Matters’ national award winners for 2006.
The Daily Telegraph ‘School Sport Matters’ campaign highlights exemplary practice in physical education and sport in schools.
And in a ceremony held at Lord’s Colvin, who at 15 became the youngest player - male or female - to play Test cricket for England, received her award from a panel of sporting celebrities including Olympic gold medallists Kelly Holmes and Darren Campbell, alongside sports minister Richard Caborn.
Colvin was called up for the Ashes Test against Australia in 2005, and took 3-65 and helped her team-mates on their way towards regaining the Ashes after a 42-year wait.
Since then, Colvin has managed to combine 10 A grades in her GCSEs with further cricketing honours and a full season in Brighton College first XI, despite having two years left at school.
