Edwards collects regional award

Charlotte Edwards

Charlotte Edwards was named BBC East sports personality of the year yesterday

England women’s captain Charlotte Edwards continued her year of unprecedented success by picking up the BBC East sports personality of the year award.

Edwards, who last month collected her MBE from Buckingham Palace, led England to ICC World Cup and World Twenty20 glory - and retained the Ashes this year.

The 29-year-old from Pidley in Cambridgeshire was presented with her latest award at the regional event last night at Tattersalls in Newmarket.

Awards Producer Shaun Peel said: "Some say the odd years are dull years because there are no big multi-national events like the Olympic Games or the World Cup, but it was a great year for the East.

"It was also fitting in an Ashes year for Charlotte Edwards to be recognised."
