Warm-up defeat for England women
England women slipped to a six-wicket defeat against Brentwood School 1st XI in a warm-up game ahead of the NatWest Women’s Quadrangular Series.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, England made 115 from their 20 overs, but Brentwood managed to overhaul the total with four balls to spare.
England, who will start their NatWest Women’s Quadrangular Series campaign against New Zealand on Thursday, were indebted to scores of 47 not out and 25 from Sarah Taylor and Jenny Gunn respectively.
Confident of defending the target, England took to the field with quicks Anya Shrubsole and Katherine Brunt leading the charge.
Shrubsole soon saw off Rahan Hassan, caught behind by Sarah Taylor, for a duck in the first over, and Brunt took 2-33.
Arran Brindle was the only other wicket-taker for England following a tight spell in the middle from Laura Marsh.
