England Women’s Academy enjoyed a morale-boosting Twenty20 win over the senior India side, who gained revenge later in the day at Loughborough.

On the day that England women beat Ireland by 51 runs at the same venue, several Academy players boosted their chances of being involved in the two NatWest Women's International T20s with India next week.

Opener Heather Knight’s 57 aided a four-wicket win, which came from the last ball of the morning game.

Having lost the toss, visiting captain Mithali Raj helped her side to 116 for six with 41 before becoming Georgia Elwiss’ second victim.

Amita Sharma’s two wickets came too late as Caroline Atkins’ unbeaten 22 ensured victory.

Once it was agreed England would bat first in the afternoon match, they could manage only 107 for eight - Atkins making 31 and Knight 30.

India lost their openers cheaply, but Raj put them back on course with 50 not out as victory came by six wickets with an over to spare.
