Jenny Gunn smashed 69 from 43 balls and took a wicket as England ended their tour of Sri Lanka in perfect fashion

A Jenny Gunn-inspired England women saved their best for last as they completed a 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka in the Twenty20 series.

Having already sealed the series with a 17-run win earlier in the day in the first part of a T20 double-header, England thrashed the hosts by 89 runs in their final outing of the tour.

England captain Charlotte Edwards elected to bat first but she was soon back in the pavilion having been pinned in front by Sripali Weerakkody.

The wicket brought Gunn to the crease and set about the Sri Lanka bowlers with gusto.

She creamed three maximums down the ground and four fours in her 69, which came from just 46 balls.

Gunn joined forces with Danielle Wyatt and the pair smote 68 from just 43 balls in an entertaining second-wicket partnership, which put England firmly in the ascendancy.

When Gunn finally perished to leave England 117 for four, Fran Wilson and Suzie Rowe, on their first England tour, gave the innings a last boost by crashing 43 from the final five overs.

Chasing an unlikely 161 to win, Sri Lanka appeared doomed as early as the first over when Rowe and Claire Taylor combined to run out Chamari Atapattu.

Danielle Hazell then ripped through the top order with a spell of 3-14 as the hosts slumped for 25 for four.

England continued to strike on a regular basis with Beth MacGregor, Edwards, Wyatt and Gunn all taking a wicket before Isa Guha trapped teenager Sherina Ravikumar lbw to end Sri Lanka's misery.

Edwards said: “It has been a really positive tour, we have had a few frustrations with the weather but the team has dealt with it really well and we have managed to get the games in.

“We brought a few young players on this tour and I am really pleased that they have taken their opportunities. We are hitting our straps now as we demonstrated in the last game and will look forward to the tour of Australia in January.”
