Jenny has language barrier

Beth and I were offered some coaching work out in Liverpool. As it's to do with cricket NSW, we were given Breakers kit to wear. I felt a bit funny going from wearing South Australia kit to Breakers kit in a day (not my ideal choice).

The guy in charge Matt was introducing the coaching staff to the parents and kids. The kids ranged from 6-13 year olds and they were brilliant but I have never had so much stick before for being English.

We were coaching for 3 days during which we had a few issues with the language barrier again.

I took the kids for fielding and was going on about the long barrier and the kids just looked at me if I was speaking a foreign language.

I later found out that they don't call it the long barrier which would explain a lot of lost looks.

I also had to keep repeating myself 3 or 4 times but it's not just the kids, I also have to repeat myself to the two people I'm living with.

You may not believe me when I say this but this is the truth. Our car broke down again. We are having nightmares with cars, at least this time Beth managed to get the car home (even if it was by driving in 2nd gear).

Not sure what the problem is but I think Beth is getting fed up of people asking her if she put the correct petrol in.

Saturday we had a Balmain get together plus a few people from other clubs. It was the last time I would see a lot of people for a while so it was a shame I had to go home after dinner as I wasn't feeling too well.

Sunday was my last game before I head home. We played in the very high 30C heat, which quite a lot of the team struggled. We won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Gordon managed to score 175, which we thought was quite an average score considering how fast the outfield was.

We lost wickets at regular intervals but Michelle G (Gossy) batted well for her 64. The pitch was becoming lower and slower all the time and we fell 12 runs short even though we had 15 overs still to play with.

It was a shame to finish on a loss and leave with so many games left and fighting for a place in the finals.

On Sunday it was Olivia Thornton's birthday (Bridget Jones as Pommy Beth calls her as she has a very posh name) so in the evening we headed over to her parents house for dinner with her family and friends.

Well everyone was so nice to me and they spoke to me as if I'd known them for years. It was strange as I kept forgetting I was in Oz as their friends were a Scot and another Pom, plus Olivia's dad sounds English.

It was a good night even though I still got a lot of stick for being English even by the Pom and the Scot. It was a nice way to end the week.

So we have a few days left now before we head home back to the cold, wet and windy weather. (It will be our luck for it to snow). It may sound strange but I'm actually looking forward to having some cold weather.
