MacGregor looks to build on debut

Beth MacGregor is aiming to nail down a regular place in the England team after making her debut against Sri Lanka
Beth MacGregor is determined to carry on improving after making her England debut in Friday’s first Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka.
The 17-year-old left-arm swing bowler was one of three players, along with Susie Rowe and Fran Wilson, to earn a first cap as Charlotte Edwards’ side recorded an emphatic eight-wicket win in Colombo.
MacGregor made a positive impression with the ball, conceding just 13 runs from three overs to help restrict the hosts to 95 for eight.
But she is refusing to rest on her laurels ahead of the second match in the series, which takes place tomorrow at the same venue.
“I was very excited to represent my country for the first time, but it was very nerve-wracking as well,” MacGregor told ecb.co.uk.
“I was aiming to go for less than one run a ball, so just over four an over was very pleasing and I also thought I fielded pretty well.
“It was good to come into a team that was successful and play a part.
“Just being in and around the big names and seeing what they do - I’ve been able to learn from that.
“Now I just want to carry on improving and cement my place in the side.”
England will be strong favourites to claim another victory tomorrow and MacGregor admits the team are targeting a 3-0 series whitewash ahead of their trip to Australia in the new year.
She added: “The aim will be to win first of all and then try to make it as convincing as possible.
“Hopefully I can keep things tight again and maybe pick up a wicket or two.
“We want to come away having won all four matches and it’s good preparation for Australia.”
