New Zealand women secured their place in the semi-finals of the ICC World Twenty20 courtesy of a 47-run win over Sri Lanka in St Kitts.

The White Ferns’ total of 154 for seven was built around Suzie Bates’ 50 off 43 balls, while Sara McGlashan contributed 31 and Aimee Watkins and Nicola Browne 20 apiece.

Chamani Seneviratna’s 4-21 were comfortably the best figures among the Sri Lanka bowlers, but only four batsmen reached double figures in their reply.

A collapse that saw them lose four wickets for nine runs in the space of 14 balls proved fatal as New Zealand eased to a victory which sees them join Australia and West Indies in the last four.

Earlier in the day, India thrashed rivals Pakistan by nine wickets in the other Group B contest.

Opener Poonam Raut struck an unbeaten 54 at a run a ball and Mithali Raj 33 not out as India passed a target of 105 with 3.2 overs to spare.

Leg-spinner Priyanka Roy earlier claimed 3-19 from four overs as Pakistan limped to 104 for six, with captain Sana Mir top-scoring on 35.

India meet Sri Lanka at the same venue on Monday to decide the last semi-final berth.
