Horsham clinch title
Horsham were crowned Southern League Super 8s champions as they swept past last year's winners St Lawrence and Highland Court.
Clubs from Sussex, Surrey and Kent gathered at Horsley and Send to play for the title after the culmination of four qualifying rounds and quarter-finals.
In the first of the semi-finals, St Lawrence and Highland Court edged out Surrey side Shepperton by just five runs.
Batting first, St Lawrence and Highland Court’s openers Emma Marsh (45) and Emma Waters (33) gave the holders the start they needed by putting a solid 70 on the board when the first wicket fell.
Shepperton battled hard, taking four more wickets, but the Kent side managed to add another 52 to the score leaving Shepperton needing 123 to win.
Shepperton looked on course when they hammered 58 from six overs but the introduction of Waters (2-29) and Anna Healey (2-43) saw wickets fall at a steady rate.
Cath McNeill’s 43 and Jessica de Tarczynski’s 34 gave Shepperton hope but they fell just short.
In the second of the semi-finals Brighton and Hove were indebted to Jade Elphick’s 37 not out as they made 77 for four.
Horsham comfortably chased it down for the loss of just two wickets with Hannah Phelps making 32 and Izzy Collis 28.
Horsham dominated the final, bowling St Lawrence out for just 57 in which Marsh contributed 22 and Heather McHale 14. Izi Noakes took two wickets as did Georgia Adams while there were three run outs.
Horsham cruised home, passing St Lawrence's total without losing a wicket with Adams unbeaten on 43 and Phelps left on 15.
