Horsham held their nerve to become the Deans Women's Indoor League champions following a tense final against Ansty.

In only its second year, the competition saw seven teams - Ansty, Bells Yew Green, Chippingdale, Henfield, Horsham, Selsey and Steyning - competing in a two-group format.

As winners of their respective groups, Horsham and Ansty met in the final which proved to be an excellent game of cricket.

Horsham batted first and posted 111 for one with Hannah Phelps, Jessica Saunders and Charlotte Walder all having to retire on 25.

Ansty, last year’s champions, kept up with the run-rate with captain Natasha Sole retiring on 25. However, Horsham kept taking wickets at regular intervals backed up by some fine fielding.

With Ansty needing 12 off the last over, Horsham kept their composure and restricted their opponents to just four runs to be crowned league champions.

Sussex Women and Girls community coach, Charlotte Burton, who runs the league was pleased with the cricket on display.

“It is great to see more clubs involved this year and to have the support from the Deans Leisure Centre, which has helped make the league a success.

"The league enables the clubs to play more cricket throughout the year and, being highly competitive, helps develop skills ready for the summer matches. The league will continue next year where we hope to have more clubs involved again.”
